Silver Springs

Yesterday we went to Silver Springs, which is 99.8% pure water that you can go on in a glass-bottom boat. It was a little claustrophobic at first but when I felt confident that the vomiting portion of my virus wasn't going to occur just then, it was great! We saw fish, turtles, cormorants (birds that dive under the water), an Indian dug-out canoe, some movie props including a sunken boat and 3 statues...and heard all kinds of interesting info about the springs. We saw lots of birds and a couple of alligators along the river, and there were other animals to visit and feed - giraffes, reptiles, bears, panthers, and the normal petting zoo crew. The park that has sprung up around the springs is the anti-Disney - very low-tech and not flashy at all. The kids had a great time...Ben loves to go to Six Flags and places like that, but they don't need the giant theme parks. They learn a lot and have just as much fun at the smaller parks, which also tend to be less crowded. It was a long day, especially since Aliya was still recovering and I was just starting with the dreaded RTV, but it was well worth the trip.

Uncle Josh...we thought of you when we saw this guy:
